Ottawa Fashion Week is starting in less than a week and I'm very happy to be showing a new collection for the third straight season!!
The inspiration for the new Fall/ Winter 2011 Collection was a twist on Victorian fashion. Of course, as is always the case with my work, it veered off in its own direction! The original concept is still quite visible throughout the collection but I wouldn't go so far as to say it is my interpretation on Victorian fashion but is rather a fusion of Victorian elements, the eighties and the distinctive Yola aesthetic!!
This dress is called "Stella"
The photos for this collection preview were shot by local photographer Christine Leblanc, the fabulous model is miss Cathy M from MIM here in Ottawa, as well, is the stunning model.
This shoot was the first time I had worked with Cathy and it was fantastic. She is a very sweet girl and a professional. If you attend the Yola Couture runway show at OFW this week you will see her walking the runway.
The Yola Couture runway show is scheduled for 6:20pm on Friday, March 18th, 2011 at the National Gallery of Canada.

I'm very excited for this runway show because this collection is different in a couple of ways. I believe that every collection I do should not only be a creative outlet but also a personal challenge. My first collection, the challenge was to just complete it in time for the show! Now, with my third collection, I'm challenging myself creatively as well as technically!

This season you will see armholes and sleeves! I know it sounds crazy that a designer would be afraid of creating anything ( in all fairness a lot of designers don't make their own patterns and do all their sewing themselves either) but I some how managed to coast through school with only three sleeves ever made and no real comfort in my ability to create a sleeve or armhole. But I have conquered my fear!!
This dress is "Katherine"
The other exciting addition to the show, this season, is the introduction of the first official Yola Couture accessories line. All the necklaces, earrings and belts on the runway will be hand made pieces made by me, of course!
The hair and make up looks have been finalized, all I'll say now is it will be chic and dramatic which sounds contradictory so you'll have to go to the show to see what I mean. The hair and make up team are the same from last year so it promises to be AMAZING.

The play list is also finalized. This part is usually where I struggle because I don't want to use songs from the radio that people hear 800 times a day but my personal music library is so sadly limited. I admit I was rescued by my OFW coordinator who suggested the songs that I ultimately chose to use for the show. Again you'll have to check out the show to hear this mystery music!
